Nurse Mentorship Short Course - Contact Tuition

Introduction

The nurse mentorship course is designed to equip participants with mentoring skills and attitude, which will enable them to support other healthcare practitioners improve their skills and knowledge in the delivery of quality healthcare. The interactive didactic curriculum is divided into nine sessions, which focus on the application of mentoring in various primary healthcare settings. The course also includes numerous clinical resources to support the health care worker in the clinic or hospital setting. During training, participants will be oriented to the resources, tools and other information which will assist them in their clinical mentoring efforts.

Course Design

The three-day interactive workshop is based on participatory learning methods based on principles of adult learning. They include a variety of participatory exercises and activities designed to build confidence and skills in clinical teaching, as well as provide guidance on how to approach mentoring.

Certification

To qualify for the certificate of attendance participants should fully attend the 3 day workshop.

Learning Outcomes

On completing of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the components of mentoring
  • Describe various examples from supportive supervision
  • Distinguish clinical mentoring from supervision
  • Discuss the benefits of Clinical mentoring
  • Identify characteristics of mentors
  • Improve patient clinical outcomes
  • Strengthen problem solving and clinical decision making skills of the health care provider
  • Build the capacity of providers to manage and refer unfamiliar or complicated cases
  • Create a mechanism for skills transfer from an experienced provider to another provider

Accreditation

Accredited according to the HPCSA’s Medical and Dental Board Guidelines for Health Care Professionals for 30 CEU’s on Level 3.
