Introduction

The Health Management Programme is an entry level management programme that successfully develops the skills of new managers, supervisors, and team leaders within the HIV/AIDS environment. Students who enroll on this programme are exposed to the complexity of management and are challenged to think differently through self-assessment and reflection. Through examining a range of management concepts, students develop techniques that improve their ability to manage in an ever changing environment. The most relevant management subjects have been weaved together to form a solid educational foundation for the operational level manager. FPD’s approach is to blend theory, personal experience and facilitation by expert faculty resulting in a management development programme that is both inspiring and practical.

Who Should Enrol

The Health Management Programme is targeted at new managers with potential for growth, first line operational managers, supervisors, team leaders and other candidates who require management development.

Course Design

The course is offered using participatory methods and building on the shared knowledge of the participants. The course is skills-based and allows participants the opportunity to find solutions to problems they may identify as managers. In order to achieve this, FPD incorporates the following learning methodologies:

  • A MODULAR FORMAT SUPPORTED WITH PRE-COURSE LEARNING MATERIALS
  • Each module is supported with customised workbooks that incorporate key concepts, activities, case studies, readings and think points. Participant's must be prepared to invest 5-7 hours of self-study per week, for the duration of the program.

  • FULL-TIME WORKSHOPS
  • The HPM is supported with 10 one-day contact sessions, run in modular study blocks every 3 months over a ten month period.

  • PARTICIPATIVE LEARNING
  • A variety of teaching methods to maximize participative learning including case discussions, lectures, group work and presentations.

  • ASSIGNMENTS
  • Four practical work-related assignments undertaken individually over the duration of the program provide a powerful means of integrating learning across the different disciplines and further reinforce the application of key concepts. These assignments form the basis for evaluation of participant's successful completion of the course.

Accreditation

Accredited, according to the HPCSA’s Medical and Dental Board Guidelines for Healthcare Professionals for 30 Ethical CEUs on level 2.

Certification

Successful participants will receive a certificate of completion for this programme. To meet the certification requirements, participants must comply with the following:

  • Attend a minimum of 80% of the workshops
  • Successfully complete all assignments
