Professional Drivers are obliged by law to undergo regular medical examinations in order to qualify for a Professional Drivers Permit. This course has been designed to provide medical practitioners with the skills to undertake such examinations in the context of the SASOM guidelines.
All General Practitioners
This course is a distance-based course and participants will receive a comprehensive and user-friendly study guide covering all the modules. No other textbooks will be required. Participants have 3 months to complete the assessment.
Legislation, standards, ethics and the health profession, complexity of driving, types of vehicles and driver categories, types of evaluations, who is qualified to do the evaluations, risk profiles.
Purpose, process, documentation, specific medical evaluations, special investigations.
Neurological and neurosurgical disorders, cardiovascular disorders, endocrine disorders, psychiatric disorders and cognitive impairment, drug and alcohol misuse and dependency, visual disorders, renal disorders, respiratory disorders, the elderly driver, driver with AIDS syndrome and the disabled driver.
Accredited according to the HPCSA’s Medical and Dental Board Guidelines for Healthcare Professionals for 3 CEU’s on Level 2
To qualify for the certificate of completion for this short course, participants should successfully complete the assessment process.
