Interests: Monitoring and Evaluation
The primary function of a manager has often been deduced to that of a continuous process of decision -making. For any decision there are various solutions. Essential to the process of selecting the most suitable option is information. The quality of the decision is directly related to the quality of the information. (Smit & de Cronje, 1997:192).
In today’s rapidly changing world it is even more important for managers and organisations to keep up-to-date with the changes in the market, the business environment, customers / suppliers and the internal environment. Information is not only vital for the day-to-day operations of a business but also for strategic planning. Management information is information that is timely, accurate and relevant to a particular situation.
Management information enables management to establish what should be done in a specific situation. (Smit & de Cronje, 1997: 194).
