Paediatric Tuberculosis Short Course - Contact Tuition



The proposed clinical training programme serves to upskill health care professionals to diagnose and manage paediatric TB and reduce DR TB deaths and disease in children. This will be done by upgrading the skills of clinicians, nurses and other professional HCW working in public and private clinics and hospitals in South Africa in the diagnosing, management of paediatric TB

Who Should Enrol

The course is aimed primarily at health care workers who wish to improve and update their clinical skills and competence in the care, management and treatment of paediatric TB

Course Design

The course is offered using participatory methods and building on shared knowledge with the participants. Facilitators used are subject experts

Course Content

The training includes all aspects of a comprehensive strategy for the diagnosis, management and treatment of paediatric TB

Learning Outcomes

  • Upon completing this course, participants should be able to:
  • Understand the epidemiological features and immunological responses of TB in children associated with increased risk
  • Identify the clinical manifestations of TB in children
  • Recognise the diagnostic tools available for diagnosis of TB in children, their differences, advantages and possible shortcomings and know how to apply it
  • Formulate a treatment regimen for children with TB, while understanding the pharmacokinetics and potential toxicities of that regimen


Participants who attend at least 80% of the workshop time, will receive a certificate of attendance from the FPD. If the candidate completes the assessment successfully, he/she will receive a certificate of completion


The course will be accredited according to the HPCSA CPD Guidelines for Health Professionals for 30 CEU’s on level 2.
