FPD Nursing Education Unit


The Foundation of Professional Development (FPD) is registered as a private higher education institution in terms of Section 54(1)(c) of the Higher Education Act, 1997 (Act No. 101 of 1997), and Regulation 16(4)(a) of the Regulations for the Registration of Private Higher Education Institutions, 2002 (registration certificate number 2002/HE07/013). FPD offers programmes, which are approved by the Registrar in terms of section 53(1) (b) of the Act and Regulation 22(c).

The Nursing Education Unit’s vision is to be recognized as a leader in innovative nursing training and education to the dynamic and diverse health needs of the population and the nursing profession. The Nursing Education Unit aim to develop well-educated and competent nurses to provide quality health services to individuals, families and communities. The Nursing Education Unit also aims to transform the lives of people and communities through innovative training, education and health care. The Nursing Education Unit is committed to professionalism, caring for the needs of people and improves healthcare quality.

The Nursing Education Unit is also committed to contribute to and disseminate evidence-based research to improve nursing and health care.

The FPD Nursing Education Unit is in the process of accreditation to the Council of Higher Education (CHE) and the South African Nursing Council (SANC) to offer the following courses:

  • Three - year Diploma in Nursing
  • Four - year Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and Midwifery
  • Post-graduate nursing courses
  • Short courses for Continuous Professional Development

Education is rendered in association with private and governmental health care facilities, where facilities expose learners to the various aspects of the health sector.
